Dr. Thornhill has over 45 years of experience in research, development, and collision reconstruction, and served as a member of the engineering faculty at The University of Texas at Austin for 20 years. He specialized in accident reconstruction and product liability cases involving machinery. Dr. Thornhill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1972 and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1973. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1980. Dr. Thornhill founded Ramirez & Long Forensics, Inc., formerly known as Thornhill, Ramirez & Associates, Inc., a forensic engineering services firm in 1993. He is a retired licensed professional engineer in Texas, was accredited as an accident reconstructionist by ACTAR, was a Board Certified Diplomat in Forensic Engineering by the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE) and was an OSHA certified safety and health official (CSHO) in General Industry and Construction. Dr. Thornhill retired as a testifying expert consultant in 2015 but continues to participate with RLF as a resource, leveraging his many years of experience.
